Scheduling sessions

Consistency is the key.

When it comes to scheduling sessions, consistency is the key. If you want more consistent results, three times a week is the optimum number of sessions to train. Appointments take 45 to 50 minutes each session (30 minutes for training and 15 minutes for clean-up and progress conference time). Many people with time constraints manage to see results training only twice weekly, but keep in mind this can actually lengthen your overall training program. Building up momentum in training is important, much like an airplane taking flight and should be considered when scheduling initial training appointments.
How long should it take to get results?

This is by far our most often asked question. Our program is set up with the expectation that by the twentieth session, significant change should happen. However, one needs to exercise some caution when speaking about expectations of successful training within a set number of sessions. Simply put, each person’s experience with neurofeedback is different and there are as many variations of time spent in training as there are brains. The number of sessions you will need to make lasting change depends upon a number of factors including the severity of your situation, how often you chose to train, other “co-existing” problems and your personal committment to change.

Still, by the tenth session, you should be able to gauge whether or not the program is working for you and you should expect to see some indications of change in your day to day life. After the tenth session, we administer a second TOVA test and set up a conference with you to review progress made, refine treatment goals, if desired, and address how  your brain seems to be responding under challenge.

We encourage clients to complete twenty sessions as the best first course of training. With consistent attendance, for people with simple attention difficulties, twenty sessions is a good benchmark for acheiving good results and effective change. However, where problems are chronic and long-standing, training can be recommended for 40 sessions or more. Again, each program is designed to meet unique circumstances dictated by your brain’s response to training. At every session you have the opportunity to talk about what direction you want training to take and work together with us to shape the program to fit your needs.
